Video Formats

The MediaKoi platform supports two different types of video in ads.

MP4

Note that MediaKoi is not currently processing video files on upload. If your video has not been compressed for use online, please contact us for help.

These files are used for background video and are uploaded via the Ad Design Tools.

Specifications are as follows:

  • Supported codecs/container:
    • Video Codec: H.264
    • Container: MP4
    • No audio allowed
    • Dimensions should match the size of the ad.
    • We recommend runtime not exceed 10 seconds.

File size is critical as this file contributes to the overall size of the ZIP package delivered to your ad server. Larger files will potentially impact performance of the ad, depending on the consumer's connection and device.

This video type is set to play on a loop in the ad. We recommend the transition from end to beginning of the file be as seamless as possible to create a better experience as the file resumes playback at the beginning.

Streaming

Streaming video is for longer content such as background videos, trailer/commercial-type videos, or live video. For details about live video, refer to the Live Video section.

Streaming files are delivered from a global video CDN. Currently, these video files must be delivered to MediaKoi for ingest. Please contact us for delivery instructions.

Specifications are as follows:

  • Most common formats accepted are: MP4, MOV, AVI, M4K, MKV.
    • Other formats may also be used, but must be tested in advance to ensure compatibility.
    • Unflattened reference files are NOT supported.
    • Recommended codecs/container:
      • Video Codec: H.264
      • Audio Codec: AAC
      • Container: MP4
  • While we can accept mezzanine files, we recommend the source’s bitrate not exceed 25 Mbps as this will slow down processing with no improvement in output quality.
  • File should begin at picture start with the slate and blacks pulled.
  • File should end at picture end.
  • Letterboxing should be removed.
  • Audio
    • Sound formats:
      • Mono
      • Stereo (delivered as Stereo or Ch1 + Ch2)
    • Subtitles
      • Subtitles must be ingested at the same time as the video file.
      • We recommend subtitles be delivered as the following formats (note that these are listed in order of preference):
        • Embedded CEA-608 subtitles.
        • TTML sidecar file.
          • Only hh:mm:ss.sss time format is supported.  Any other time format will result in an error.
